The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has published revision cycle information for its new combustible dust standard NFPA 652 as the organization prepares to issue a new edition of the regulations in 2019.
The organization is seeking public input for the first draft of the revised standard by Jun. 29, 2016. The first draft of the revamped NFPA 652 is slated for Mar. 1, 2017. After the first draft is posted, the NFPA will host a meeting on the document at its Quincy, MA headquarters on Aug. 8 to 11, 2016 to discuss the revisions. A later meeting of the Combustible Dusts Correlating Committee will be held to remark on proposed changes in San Antonio, TX from Nov. 29. to Dec. 2, 2016.
After the initial draft, the public will have until May 10, 2017 to provide comments for a second draft. After public input, the second draft will be posted on Jan. 24, 2018.
The August 2015 version of NFPA 652 is now in effect, several news organizations reported this week.
While NFPA 652 is one of several combustible dust standards, Susan Bershad, the NFPA’s staff liaison for combustible dust standards, said at American Industrial Hygiene Conference & Exhibition (AIHce) in Baltimore last week that the organization is moving toward a single combustible dust standard, Occupational Health & Safetyreported.
“It’s going to take a long time,” said Bershad on the timeline for the organization’s development of a single combustible dust standard.
