About Cambridge Industries Group (CIG)
Introduction:
CIG is a world-leading high-tech center specialized for FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) and other telecommunication equipment, and also the independent GPON ONT OEM supplier.
CIG now is the worldwide leading independent telecom OEM supplier focused solely on GPON (Gigabit-Capable Passive Optical Network) CPE equipment (i.e. GPON ONT, ONU, MDU, etc.), which is an essential integral part of GPON OLT (Optical Line Terminal) vendors’ and service providers’ end-to-end GPON solutions.
Most of our key staff who used to be in R&D and product management department have been worked for top communication equipment company such as Bell Labs Lucent Nortel R &D Center ,Lucent(China) and equipment manufacture factory, HW, ZTE,UT Starcom and Alcatel-sbell. The core team of the company has been responsible for many important R&D management ,planning and production management. Possessing such excellent team ,we have equipmented ability of Innovative technologies ,R&D capability in Telecom level, higher manufacturing quality and we can provide real time and uninterrupted service for our customers
Service providers deploy GPON access systems to enable a rich set of services from and beyond simple Ethernet Broadband Connectivity, Voice over IP, Video overlay or over IP, to the new generation of Broadband Home-networking. Service providers will also deploy GPON to transform from today’s circuit based network for TDM Services connectivity and 2G/3G Cellular Backhaul connections to the more efficient and flexible packet based network via CES (Circuit Emulation Services) technique.
CIG’s complete GPON CPE product portfolio enables OLT vendors to realize these terminal functionalities with reduced cost, enhanced features, possibility of customized solutions, quality and volume deliveries. Because of its strong capabilities in R&D, manufacture, and services all three areas, CIG usually can engage with OLT partners at the earliest stage focusing on development, and continue the engagement throughout the intensive initial field application (IFA) stage, and then continue and expand the delivery at the later mass deployment stage.
As of August 2010, CIG has delivered more than 1000K GPON ONTs, via its more than ten OLT partners to GPON projects throughout the world. This is still a small number compared with what is for EPON and BPON, and is much smaller compared to DSL modems. However, this is a giant step forward in GPON. CIG always sizes its operation capability to be very strong while appropriately in line with the growing market opportunity. Since inception, CIG has been quarter-to-quarter operationally positive. CIG currently is again step-by-step expanding its operation capability, production and support infrastructure, getting itself ready for the much larger demand of GPON CPE/ONT.
CIG is volume delivering the following products:
l GPON SFU (Single Family Unit) including GPON “Fiber-Modem”, GPON “Layer 2 Gateway” and GPON SBU (Small Business Unit)
l GPON MDU/MTU (Multi-Dwelling Unit/ Multi-Tenant Unit), GPON RGW (Residential Gateway)
FTTH (Fiber-to-the-home), especially GPON, is viewed as one of the most promising opportunities in the fixed-line telecom industry. GPON is expected to ultimately replace today’s worldwide DSL based broadband access network. However, FTTH hasn’t been picking up speed like DSL once did. One of the main reasons is the relatively high CPE (i.e. ONT/ONU) cost. For the same reason, operators eager to deploy GPON are very conscious about CPE cost.
GPON is deployed by worldwide leading telecom operators, with its standards driven by FSAN and ITU-T, promoting global standardization with multi-vendor interoperability. This determines:
(1) GPON growth is more steady but relatively slower, and
(2) A GPON CPE is expected to be more “carrier-class” (i.e. technologically complicated and quality demanding) than DSL modem and even than EPON CPE.
All of these are turn out to be benefiting GIG’s specific business model and growth pattern.
CIG is organized in 4 major Operation Units:
1. CIG's R&D Unit, with its rich carrier-class development background, has attained complete knowledge in GPON technologies and in-house end-to-end capabilities in GPON ONT development, including sophisticated telecom grade software and hardware development capabilities, and especially including GPON related FPGA/ASIC and GPON optics capabilities. CIG's R&D team now has 200+ full time team members.
2. CIG has also established its own strong Manufacture Management and Service Unit, now capable of quality and speedy delivery over 30K ONT units per week, is ramping up to the capacity of 50K-100K per week soon.
3. CIG's high performing Operation Unit (i.e. the Business, Financial and Logistics Management Team) has also successfully managed the 5+ times year-to-year growth, and over $25M materials flows in 2009, and has maintained CIG's continuous quarter-to-quarter positive cash flow operation.
4. CIG’s small but highly effective Sales and Marketing Unit has achieved remarkable success in the past few years. They have opened more than 10 major accounts including world top 5 GPON equipment vendors.
